- I just set up and I am happily using the EZ135 SyQuest Removable SCSI
- drive and my Amiga 1200. I will briefly review it for other Amiga owners
- who are considering purchasing this drive.
-
- My hardware setup.
-
- - Stock Amiga 1200 with 850MB 3.5" Western Digital IDE hard drive.
- - DataFlyer XDS (lets me use the 3.5" drive, mounted in its own
- protective metal case. The IDE interface is routed to the expansion
- chasis from the internal IDE interface).
- - DataFlyer SCSI+1200 (Lets me use the IDE drive AND SCSI devices AT THE SAME
- TIME).
-
- O.K. I first bought the EZ135 with the parallel interface--that one does
- not work with the Amiga. Just forget about it. Then I purchased the
- SCSI+1200 so I didn't have to sell my IDE drive to purchase a SCSI drive.
- The SCSI+ cost me $100.94 from Software Hut.
-
- The SCSI+ installs on the IDE interface. Then I just plug the XDS IDE
- cable into the SCSI+ bypass. I then screw a DB25 connector into the empty
- SCSI, which is next to the mouse port. The other end of the DB25 goes
- into the SCSI 26 pin header on the SCSI+ board. I then reassembled my
- computer.
-
- Then I installed the SCSI drivers from the enclosed floppy disk. I just
- clicked on autoinstall and the program will prompt you to answer a few
- questions (i.e. SCSI device number, Amiga 1200 or 4000). You can set the
- device number on the drive itself by pushing the + or - buttons on the
- back of the drive next to the power switch.
-
- After installing the drivers I had to format the device. I just rebooted
- my system from the enclosed floppy drive and clicked on DF-Prep. This
- takes you to a menu where you can choose to either autoinstall or do it
- manually. If you choose manual installation, you can set the buffer,
- device name, max transfer, etc. I chose autoinstall.
-
- ***NOTE: You can only have ONE partition on the disk.***
-
- That's it! Just reboot and you're ready to go. The drive works just like
- a HDD. One note, you must have a cartridge in the EZ135 when you boot
- your computer or you WILL NOT be able to boot. the sytem just keeps warm
- booting over and over.
-
- If you already have a SCSI interface, all you have to do is install the
- drivers and format the drive. Remember, NO PARTITIONS!
-
- The cartridge formats to 127 MB's. I think this drive is better than the
- ZIP drive (it's two times faster, has 35% more capacity, and has a better
- warrenty) and I also like its funky design.
